Public works have declared their challenges in service delivery to their 51 clients which includes 32 government ministries. The slow delivery is hampering the department’s reputation. For this reason, SMUTS-DFR engineers was nominated by the department of Public work to assist in consultation on how to improve service delivery on one of their clients which is department of Justice and Constitutional development. We shall be advising the department of Justice and Constitutional development on Electrical and Electronic Engineering aspects.

Electrical Engineering companyDFR Engineers are currently working in association with the Bigen Africa Cape Town office on the Electrical reticulation to a new low cost housing, commercial, retail and industrial development for the City of Cape Town, which includes the following scope of works:
• Initial survey of existing infrastructure including liaison with Eskom.
• Liaison with the City and with the Department of Energy to facilitate subsidy funding for the project.
• Design and documentation of all bulk and link services to ensure electrical supply to the various development areas.
• Design and documentation of the MV, LV and Street Lighting systems for the entire project consisting of approximately 3800 living units, and 32 000 sqm GLA of commercial and retail space.
• Specification measuring and tendering the reticulation system consisting of MV switches, Minis ubstations, MV cabling, LV cabling, Distribution Kiosks and other ancillary systems.
• Specification measuring and tendering the street lighting system consisting of poles, luminaires, LV cabling, Distribution Kiosks and other ancillary systems.
• Site monitoring and project management during construction phase
• Testing and handover of reticulation systems to Eskom.
• Testing and handover of street lighting systems to the City of Cape Town

Electrical engineeringDFR Engineers Cape has been appointed by the Department of Public Works to be responsible for the design and site supervision of the repair (10 months) and maintenance (24 months) phase of the Correctional Centre.

This advanced project includes the following aspects:
All kiosks to comply with the regulations, all power and light circuits to comply with the regulations, existing air conditioning units to be serviced, fire hose reels to be installed, inner security fence to be removed and a new taut wire fence, complete with controls and sensors, to be installed, design a heat pump system to replace all hot water cylinders (28) in the prison, HIV/Aids awareness, refurbish existing kitchen equipment, installation of lightning protection and maintenance schedule to commence on site handover.
